Only 50% of Telangana people want separate state: CNN IBN survey
>> Sunday, 14 August 2011
While nothing can beat a referendum brought forward by a Government, we do have media houses occasionally conducting those surveys to know people’s opinion at large. This time, we have a survey conducted by CNN-IBN and CNBC TV18 on the hot topic of ‘Demand for Telangana’.
While political leaders from Telangana region scream on top of their voice that each and every person of 4 Crore Telangana population are demanding a separate state (and by the way, the recent population stats reveal that Telangana region hardly has 3.5 crores people), the survey conducted by these network 18 channels tells something different.
The question is ‘How Andhra Pradesh should be’?
Just 50% of the respondents from Telangana region prefer division on the state. But good news for T supporters is that this number has risen from 42% back in 2009 May.
While this is the case in Telangana region, an overwhelming 90% of the respondents from Seemandhra region prefer the state to be united, as it is now (Samaikhyandhra). Back in May 2009, this group only accounted for 71%, which tells that desire to keep the state united has grown at a greater pace in Seemandhra region compared to dividing the state opinion observed in Telangana region.
